Mediterranean Diet and Oncology
Nia in Chicago’s West Loop offers authentic Mediterranean cuisine, intimate ambiance, private dining, curated wine pairings, live music, and special romance packages, making it ideal for date nights.
APTA TRANSform & EXPO brings the public transportation industry to Chicago from October 4–7, 2026, with the EXPO running October 5–7 at McCormick Place. Manufacturers, transit agencies, suppliers, technology companies, consultants, engineering teams and business partners will spend the week meeting customers, demonstrating products and discussing the future of public transportation.
NIA Restaurant & Wine Bar gives APTA attendees a West Loop setting for company parties, exhibitor celebrations, customer dinners, partner receptions and transit-team gatherings away from the exhibition floor.
NIA is located at 803 W. Randolph Street in Chicago’s West Loop. Under the restaurant’s regular schedule, Tuesday October 6 and Wednesday October 7 are the strongest APTA week evenings for private or group dining. Event availability must be confirmed directly with NIA.
Bring together the engineers, sales teams, customers, partners and colleagues behind your APTA week over shared Mediterranean food, wine and cocktails in Chicago’s West Loop.
APTA TRANSform runs October 4–7, while the EXPO takes place October 5–7 at McCormick Place South Building. For NIA events under the restaurant’s regular operating schedule, Tuesday and Wednesday are the practical evenings to plan around.
Conference programming takes place across the four-day event.
The exhibition is held at McCormick Place South Building.
Tuesday and Wednesday align with NIA’s current dinner schedule.
APTA week brings together people working across nearly every part of public transportation. A single company may have sales representatives meeting customers, technical specialists explaining equipment, leadership attending conference sessions and service partners following their own schedules across McCormick Place.
A company gathering gives those different groups one reason to come back together after the exhibition day. It can be a chance to thank customers, welcome visiting colleagues, introduce business partners or simply give the team time to relax after several hours of meetings and demonstrations.
The best format depends on why everyone is being invited. A smaller customer dinner may need a seated table and time for conversation. A company celebration may work better with a broader group and shared menu. A partner gathering may focus on introductions, drinks and an easier flow between guests.
Start with the purpose of the evening, then build the guest list, food, beverage plan and timing around it.
An exhibition booth depends on far more than the people standing at the front of it. Product experts, engineers, operations staff, account managers, leadership and local partners may all contribute to the week.
A company dinner gives the team one shared experience after a day spent demonstrating products, answering technical questions, speaking with customers and navigating the exhibition floor.
Timing matters. Some employees may have booth responsibilities right until closing while others finish earlier. Tell NIA the likely arrival pattern when requesting your event so the proposed dining format reflects the way your team will actually arrive.
Wednesday can also work as an end-of-show celebration, but exhibitors should first confirm teardown responsibilities, travel schedules and which colleagues will still be in Chicago that evening.
APTA brings customers, technology partners, consultants, manufacturers and transit organisations into the same city. Dinner can give those relationships more time than a quick conversation between booths.
The evening might be designed to thank existing customers, introduce a new account team, reconnect with service partners or bring several organisations involved in the same transit project together.
For smaller groups, a seated dinner can create enough time for everyone to speak. A broader gathering may call for a more flexible group format with drinks and shared food.
Companies should also review their own hospitality policies and any requirements applicable to invited guests before finalising the event.
NIA can support several kinds of professional gatherings during APTA week, subject to date, group size, restaurant availability and the event setup confirmed with the restaurant.
Bring together the sales, engineering, product, operations and leadership teams behind your exhibition after a full day at McCormick Place.
Host transit customers and professional contacts around a shared West Loop table away from the pace of the exhibition floor.
Reconnect with suppliers, consultants, service teams and technology partners over Mediterranean-inspired food and drinks.
Give agency colleagues or project teams one place to compare what they saw, discuss ideas and spend time together after conference programming.
Use wine, cocktails and shared plates for a lighter gathering where guests can join conversations without committing to a formal multi-course dinner.
For larger or more structured gatherings, contact NIA early to discuss the current private-event and group-dining options.
Not every APTA event needs to be a large reception. For many companies and transit organisations, one useful dinner with the right people can matter more than a crowded evening event.
A team dinner gives colleagues time to compare what they saw on the EXPO floor, talk about new technologies or suppliers and reconnect after following separate schedules during the day.
Decide how structured the evening needs to be before requesting the event. Some teams may want nothing more than dinner and conversation. Others may want a brief welcome, introductions or a short presentation before the meal.
If your group includes guests arriving from several cities or countries, confirm both the start time and expected finish. Travel plans, early conference sessions and departure schedules can all influence how long people are realistically available.
The EXPO schedule changes during the week, and NIA’s regular restaurant schedule means not every conference evening should be marketed in the same way.
TRANSform programming begins, including the opening reception. NIA is normally closed Sunday, so regular dinner service should not be advertised.
The EXPO hall is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. NIA is normally closed Monday, so a standard Monday party should not be promoted without confirmed special service.
The EXPO hall is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. NIA operates from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., making Tuesday one of the strongest APTA week dining nights.
The EXPO hall is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. NIA opens at 5 p.m., leaving a useful buffer before an end-of-show team dinner or celebration.
Tuesday planning note: the official APTA program includes evening receptions on Tuesday, including an LGBTQ+ Reception. Check your guests’ conference commitments before choosing your dinner start time.
Restaurant availability and the conference schedule are separate considerations. If your gathering will be promoted in connection with APTA, the host should also check the event organiser’s current affiliate-event requirements before confirming invitations.
After several hours on the exhibition floor, guests usually want food that feels substantial without turning the evening into another rigid schedule. Shared Mediterranean dining allows the table to settle in, begin eating and keep the conversation moving.
NIA’s current group menu includes shared tasting formats with dishes such as croquettes, artisan pizza, chicken pintxos, patatas bravas and churros. A vegetarian shared tasting menu is also listed, and the restaurant notes that dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
For a company party, choosing the food arrangement in advance can make the evening much easier to manage. The organiser can spend less time coordinating individual orders while guests focus on the people sitting around them.
Tell NIA about dietary requirements, allergies and the approximate number of guests needing adjustments before the event. Current dishes, pricing and packages can change, so final planning should use the restaurant’s live group menu.
The beverage plan should match the purpose and length of the gathering. A seated customer dinner, team celebration and networking reception do not necessarily need the same format.
NIA serves wine, handcrafted cocktails and other beverages alongside its Mediterranean-inspired menu. When requesting a proposal, explain whether drinks should be part of the hosted experience and whether the group also needs non-alcoholic choices.
Companies working with a fixed hospitality budget should ask exactly what is included, how additional orders are handled and when any agreed package begins and ends.
Confirm those details before invitations go out so guests and internal organisers are working from the same plan.
APTA week is busy and highly structured. Moving away from McCormick Place for dinner gives guests a clear change of atmosphere after hours of exhibition activity.
NIA’s West Loop setting is designed around Mediterranean-inspired food, wine and conversation. The aim is not to recreate another trade-show environment, but to give guests a comfortable place to spend time together.
The right room arrangement depends on the event. A seated customer dinner, company gathering and networking reception can each require a different level of space, privacy and service.
Ask NIA to confirm the setup, capacity and event format available for your chosen date rather than relying on a general maximum or an old event description.
APTA EXPO takes place at McCormick Place South Building, 2301 S. Martin Luther King Drive. NIA is a separate West Loop destination at 803 W. Randolph Street.
Hosts should decide whether guests will travel directly from the exhibition, return to their hotels first or make their own way to the restaurant. That choice affects the realistic arrival window more than a generic drive-time estimate.
For a company vehicle or organised transfer, confirm the departure point and timing with the transport provider. For independent arrivals, send guests NIA’s complete address, the event name and the reservation or company name.
Chicago traffic, conference crowds and rideshare demand can change throughout the day, so use live navigation and allow enough time for guests to assemble before the planned start.
The fastest way to receive a useful event proposal is to give the restaurant a clear picture of the gathering. You do not need every detail finalised before enquiring, but the main event requirements should be realistic.
Provide the company or organisation name, main organiser, email address and phone number.
Share your preferred Tuesday or Wednesday date, expected start time and approximate duration.
Give a realistic expected attendance range and ask when the final guaranteed count will be required.
Explain whether you are planning an exhibitor celebration, customer dinner, partner gathering or another company event.
Include menu preferences, beverage expectations, dietary restrictions, allergies and approximate budget.
Mention privacy, accessibility, presentation needs or any other requirement that could affect the proposed arrangement.
Ask for an itemised proposal that clearly explains food, beverages, any applicable space requirements or minimum spend, taxes, service charges, deposit requirements, cancellation terms and the deadline for the final guest count.
